From "Breaking the Cross" to Celebrating It: Christmas in Qadian, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad's Birthplace

The Irony of Qadian: Celebrating Christmas in Mirza Ghulam Ahmad's Birthplace

Qadian, a small village in Punjab, India, holds historical significance for the Ahmadiyya community. It is the birthplace of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani, who spent his life proclaiming that he was sent to “break the cross” and counter the Christian faith. His writings are filled with declarations of triumph over Christianity, claiming that he had defeated their "fabricated God" and refuted their beliefs. For decades, the Ahmadiyya community has upheld these claims, propagating their version of success across more than 200 countries.
However, the reality in Qadian today paints a very different picture. The streets of Qadian are lit up with festive lights, and the air is filled with the sounds of Christmas celebrations.
Christians in Qadian openly worship Jesus, adorning their homes and public spaces with His idols.
Processions on decorated tractor-trolleys roam the streets, with jubilant crowds chanting the name of Jesus. In the very town where Mirza Ghulam Ahmad vowed to break the cross, the faith of Trinity flourishes in celebration.
This irony is glaring. On one hand, the Ahmadiyya leadership continues to boast about their global expansion and claims of theological victory. On the other hand, in their founder’s own village, Christianity thrives, with no sign of the supposed "breaking of the cross."
Such contradictions raise critical questions for the followers of Ahmadiyyat. Is the narrative they’ve been told truly aligned with reality? The state of Qadian today serves as a stark reminder that claims and reality are often worlds apart.
